Does Your Facebook Business Page Get Reviews?

Do you have concerns about the effects of poor reviews? Have you ever wondered how you should deal with negative ratings or how to remove them?

A Facebook page’s star rating is the average of all public star ratings that the Page has received. But only Pages that allow Facebook reviews will show a star rating.

Keep in mind that when someone posts a rating, they can select an audience to share it with. For example, if they post a star rating and select ‘Friends’ as the audience, only their friends can see their rating. Only star ratings that are shared publicly are included in a Page’s overall rating.

Reviews can be very persuasive to attract new customers. A recent study has shown that 84% of people trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations. Allowing people to leave a review on your Facebook page is a good idea and gives social proof to potential customers.

When you use ratings, there’s always the potential for a poor one, as well as the likelihood that a customer who has poorly rated your business will have strict privacy settings and you’ll be unable to respond to the review.  Only the person who posted the review can edit or delete the review.

How to Get Review Notifications

It’s a good idea to turn on your notifications within your page settings to stay on top of your page’s star ratings and reviews. You will want to respond immediately to either positive or negative reviews left on your Facebook page.

Here’s how to turn on your notifications. Go to your Facebook page Settings, choose Notifications from the list on the left, then choose On Facebook – Get a notification each time there is activity on your Page or an important Page update, then on the same page find Edit Your Notification Settings for: and choose New Page Review, Click Turn On.

How to Turn Off Reviews

If Facebook ratings create too many problems for your business, you may want to remove the rating system altogether. Go to your Facebook page Settings, choose Edit Page, on the right side scroll down until you find Reviews, then choose the Settings button, you will see Show Reviews with a button ON or OFF, to disable reviews on your page choose NO.

Although this may provide a solution if you are having major problems with ratings on your page just note that it will give an advantage to any competition that is using ratings.

Responding to Reviews

As a Page owner, respond to the reviews by either ‘Liking’ the review or posting a comment.  Do this for both positive and negative reviews.

If you want to delete a negative review, well – you can’t.

If you have a negative review, it’s best to take some time to consider how to respond thoughtfully. If you can call or email them to discuss you may be able to correct the situation and ask the reviewer to edit or delete the review.

Remember, if you don’t have any reviews or just a few and you want ratings, then don’t be shy – ask your customers to leave a review or rate your business. 7 out of 10 customers will leave a review if asked.
